CBS Marty Bass National Fries Day at Boardwalk Fries Perry Hall

Hi everyone!

Today is National Fry Day! Now while there is a "day" every day, this is one topic we can all find comfort in: the french fry! And in Baltimore, just a short drive from the Ocean City and Delaware Shore boardwalks, is the home of Boardwalk Fries.

It all began in the early 1980s when two brothers, Dave and Francis DiFerdinando, were on vacation in Ocean City. Wondering why the french fry business was only OC thing, they decided to bring the concept to their hometown. Soon the first Boardwalk Fry location opened in White Marsh. By the late 80s, the brothers had franchises coast to coast.

Francis said the franchise's reach now extends internationally. In fact, the company has more locations in Canada than the United States and it has even expanded its footprint overseas with with locations in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. So, tell me the french fry is not king, I dare you!

These days, much more than fries are on the menu. Boardwalk Fries serves up burgers, hotdogs and even healthy options for those who are keeping tabs on their diet. In 2022, a business needs to pivot to what the consumer wants, and Boardwalk does it well..

It was great to celebrate the french fry but it was an even better feeling to celebrate some local folks who had an idea and the courage to run with it.

A new Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries is slated to open in Baltimore County by the end of the year, or at the latest by the beginning of 2023!

Currently with locations in Perry Hall and Lansdowne, the Corporate Office is pleased to announce its anticipated opening of this newest location.

The fast-casual industry has struggled over the past two years due to Covid and its restrictions on inside eating.  With innovative operational changes and new strategies, Boardwalk has continued to thrive, and the anticipated opening of this new locations is indicative of its survival over these obstacles.

Boardwalk offers a varied menu for all ages, and a warm inviting atmosphere.   Boardwalk believes the new location in the Mill Station at 10288 Mill Run Circle, Suite 102, Owings Mills, MD 21117 will be a welcomed addition to the surrounding community.

Mill Station offers major retailers, such as Lowes, Costco, and the AMC theater, which are great draws for customers to the center, and Boardwalk offers those customers a great opportunity for lunch or dinner for those shoppers, their families and people working in the area alike.    Mill Station is within walking distance of the Metro Subway for shoppers coming out to Baltimore County from the city as well.

An announcement of the Grand Opening Date is expected by the end of the year.

PERRY HALL, MD — A new restaurant is opening in the Perry Hall Square shopping center.

Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes will welcome customers on Monday, Jan. 24, according to Councilman David Marks.

Marks congratulated manager John DiFerdinando on the latest opening for the company.

"The Perry Hall Square Shopping Center has undergone so many improvements over the past three years," Marks said. "Lots of terrific options for the community!"

 Since the nearly 60-year-old shopping center went through renovations in recent years, it has signed on additional restaurant tenants like the Rolling Grill in 2020 and El Salto in 2019.

 Boardwalk Fries & Burgers evolved from Boardwalk Fries, which David DiFerdinando and his brother Fran launched in 1981.

Their first location was in White Marsh, and it aimed to recreate the piping-hot fries that people would wait in line for in Ocean City on the Boardwalk.

By 1990, the franchise had spread coast to coast, and there are 50 licensed Boardwalk Fries locations, according to the company.

Eventually it added burgers and shakes to its repertoire and branched out worldwide, opening under the name Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes. Currently,

80 franchises are under development, from Canada to Pakistan, according to Boardwalk. There is one other Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes restaurant in Maryland, and that is in Lansdowne Station off Washington Boulevard in Halethorpe.

The restaurant in Perry Hall Square is located near Italian Sensation.  Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes will be at 8911 Belair Rd., Perry Hall.
